Minister of Foreign Affairs Støre Visits Tbilisi

Norway’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Jonas Gahr Støre, visited Georgia on November 10-11. Here he had fruitful meetings with President Mikheil Saakashvili, Prime Minister Nika Gilauri and Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze, Furthermore, Mr. Støre held the opening speech at the seminar “Georgian-Norwegian Cooperation on Hydropower”.
During the official meetings the parties discussed domestic, regional and international issues, in addition to the bilateral relations and future cooperation between Georgia and Norway.
During his stay in Tbilisi Mr. Støre also met with representatives from Georgian civil society and opposition. As well, he visited former Hotel London, where the Norwegian author Knut Hamsun lived in 1899, and the Betlemi district in Tbilisi’s old town which has been rehabilitated through a Georgian-Norwegian cooperation project. This was Mr. Støre’s first visit to Georgia, and it undoubtedly will contribute to further development of the good relations between Georgia and Norway.
