An adaptation of Knut Hamsun’s novel “Victoria” was performed at State Youth Theatre on Saturday, 16th of January. The project has been financed by the Norwegian Embassy. The Norwegian ambassador attended the premiere of the play.
Victoria is the story of a young girl, who comes from a noble and rich family and she distinguishes herself from her surrounding with her independence and courage. She falls in love with the miller’s son Johannes. Johannes realizes that the only way to marry Victoria is to get a good education and obtain a certain status in society. However, the social distance between them is too great and Victoria is forced to get engaged with the rich man named Otto. Johannes and Victoria love each other, but difficulties stand in the way of their love.
Hamsun received Nobel Prize in 1920 for Markens Grøde (The Growth of the Soil).
