From 12 to 15 December Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg is visiting the South Pole to mark the centenary of Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen and his team reaching the Pole in 1911, and to underline the importance of the Antarctic continent in relation to global climate change. Read more

“Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Leymah Gbowee and Tawakkul Karman are each in their own right worthy winners of the Nobel Peace Prize. The Government welcomes the award of this year’s prize to these three women. Here he had fruitful meetings with President Mikheil Saakashvili, Prime Minister Nika Gilauri and Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze, Furthermore, Mr. Støre held the opening speech at the seminar “Georgian-Norwegian Cooperation on Hydropower”. The international conference "Thor Heyerdahl and Azerbaijan" took place in Baku October 26-29. The conference was organized by Azerbaijan University of Languages (AUL) and the University of Oslo, and brought together scholars and experts. Thor Heyerdahl jr. and Jaqueline Beer Heyerdahl were the guests of honour at the conference. Read more

On October 13 in the OSCE Permanent Council Norway aligned itself with an EU statement on human rights, fundamental freedoms and the rule of law in Azerbaijan. Read more

The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided that the Nobel Peace Prize for 2011 is to be divided equally between Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Leymah Gbowee and Tawakkul Karman.

Around 40 Baku based Norwegians took the trip to the new Dalga Arena in Mardakan on the shore of the Caspian Sea to support Norway's men U-21 national football team in the match against Azerbaijan. Read more

On September 20th, the Ambassador of Norway to Azerbaijan and Georgia, Mr. Erling Skjønsberg, held the opening address at the conference “Community and Historic Environment” in Tbilisi. The conference marked the conclusion of a cooperation project between the Norwegian Directorate for Cultural Heritage (Riksantikvaren) and ICOMOS Georgia. Read more

Earlier this year, the Norwegian embassy in Baku in cooperation with Pasha Bank organized an essay competition, the theme of which was corporate social responsibility. The national memorial ceremony is being held to commemorate the dead, support each other and thank all those who helped both during and after the attacks on the government offices in Oslo and Utøya.
