9-months Parent Visa/Permit

A parent visa means that a mother or father has a right to apply for 9-months visa to be able to stay with her/his child/children having a residence permit for Norway.

The Norwegian Embassy in Baku is authorised to accept applications for a 9-months Parent Visa for Norway from the citizens of Azerbaijan and Georgia (All applicants, applying from Azerbaijan for any type of permits for Denmark, are advised to check the list of the required documents and applications on the DIS's website. These applicants cannot use the Norwegian Visa Portal and should apply in paper format).

Please be informed that each applicant should register his/her application for a 9-months Parent Visa and pay the application fee online via the Norwegian Visa Portal.

After successfully completing the application online, the applicant should deliver the required documents to the Embassy within the visa days and hours. All documents should be delivered personally by the applicant. Please note that each document should be in a high quality copy, A4 format, 1-side and not stapled as all documents will be scanned and electronically processed. The Embassy will not accept any documents not meeting the Embassy's criteria for its electronical processing.

The following documents are required/recommended to apply for a 9-months Parent Visa:

  • Cover Letter, signed by the applicant. The applicant receives this Cover Letter to his email address after successfully completing the registration of his/her application online.
  • 1 passport-size photo. For detailed information on the required photos please click here.
  • 1 coloured copy of all pages of the passport and the passport itself.
  • 1 coloured copy of the National Identity Card (Azərbaycan Respublikası vətəndaşinın şəxsiyyət vəsiqəsi) (both sides).
  • Invitation letter (original) from a child living in Norway.
  • Guarantee Form for Residence (optional) which should be filled in by a reference in Norway and confirmed by a local authority in Norway (Police Office, etc.). This form can be downloaded here.
  • Financial documents on a reference’s income (for the last 3-6 months).

  • Reference’s birth certificate (1 original and 1 copy) translated into English and verified by Apostille.

    Application fee – NOK 3,750 – is paid online at the last stage of the application's registration. Please note that the decision on approving/rejecting an application for a 9-months Parent Visa is taken only by the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) and the processing can take up to 10 months. In the case of the application is rejected by the UDI, no payment will be reimbursed. If the applicant is granted a residence permit, a relevant D visa will be issued, and upon arrival in Norway the applicant must report to the police of his/her stay no later than 7 days after entry. If an application is rejected an applicant will be notified on the decision.
